BETWEEN THE MEETINGS

Find a little city between the meetings.

Journal Street

You don’t need to add a full vacation to enjoy a work trip. A short, well-chosen outing can turn an otherwise familiar hotel-and-meeting routine into something more memorable.

Work with the time you really have

If there’s a free hour, choose a nearby café or a short neighborhood walk. With a longer break, consider a cultural stop or dinner in an area you haven’t explored. Include travel time and a generous buffer before your next commitment.

Keep your base in mind

Choose a destination that is easy to reach from your hotel or workplace. Check the actual route rather than relying on distance alone: a short trip on the map can involve transfers, steep streets, or limited pedestrian access.

Give one evening a different rhythm

Book a table if the place you want to try requires it. Take an earlier outing if that fits your schedule better. You can enjoy a city without filling every free minute or staying out late.

Make tomorrow easier

Before heading out, save your return route and check transit alerts. Bring a charged phone, pay attention at crossings, and use the pickup location shown in your rideshare app if you choose to ride. Keep the outing simple enough that you return feeling refreshed.
